EMMANUEL MONTIEL

I'm Emmanuel, an illustrator and storyteller best known for The Adventures of Onin and The Adventures of Sira.

I studied Fine Arts in Barcelona and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. My work has been exhibited across Europe and Japan, and I’ve been honored six times with the Juul Kanpaina Award for Best Illustrator, chosen by kids through popular votes around the Basque Country and Spain.

Residencies in Japan — at AIR-Y (Yamanashi, 2013) and Kura (Itoshima, 2022) — have deeply influenced my creative practice. The Onin collection will soon be newly published by Penguin Random House, bringing the stories to an even wider audience.
